This Week in GCS: Free Family Reading Class and S’mores Party

Tuesday, Dec. 3
Free Family Reading Class (5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Hunter Elementary, 1305 Merritt Dr, Greensboro)
Free Family Reading Classes offered through Reading Connections and Guilford County Partnership for Children. Support your child’s education while also improving your own reading, writing or English skills! The program provides free adult classes, free child classes, a free book each week and free dinner at each class.

Friday, Dec. 6
S’mores Party (1:30 p.m. Jesse Wharton Elementary, 5813 Lake Brandt Rd, Greensboro) The Literacy Committee at Jesse Wharton Elementary will be hosting a S’mores Party on Friday Dec 6th at 1:30pm in the cafeteria to celebrate the highest reader in each class for the month of November.

Saturday, Dec. 7
Free Credit and Money Management Workshop (10 a.m. – Noon, Capital Bank, 1505 Highwoods Blvd, Greensboro) Interested in budgeting, paying off debt, starting a savings plan, establishing or repairing your credit, but you don’t know where to start? This is the workshop for you. Topic discussed will include budgeting, paying off debt, saving money, settling accounts and establishing and rebuilding your credit profile.

Other Ongoing Activities:
Monday Dec. 2 – Friday, Dec. 6
Candy Cane Greetings Service Learning Project (Jesse Wharton Elementary, 5813 Lake Brandt Rd, Greensboro) This project is run solely by the Exceptional Children’s Adapted Curriculum classes. The students will take orders, attach message tags, sort candy canes by grade and class. They will even deliver the candy canes each day as well as do the shopping for the families at the end of the project. Money will support needy families at Jesse Wharton Elementary.
