Parks and Recreation Unveils “Plan2Play”

GREENSBORO, NC (January 10, 2019) – Greensboro Parks and Recreation has released a draft of Plan2Play, the department’s comprehensive master plan for community recreation for the next 20 years. Residents are invited to review the plan<user-kcmpnye.cld.bz/Greensboro-Plan2Play-Parks-and-Recreation-Master-Plan-2019-Draft-Plan> and comment on it between now and January 31. Residents can send their comments to plan2play@greensboro-nc.gov<mailto:plan2play@greensboro-nc.gov>. City Council will consider adopting the plan next month.
For the last year, Parks and Recreation planners and the consulting group Agency Landscape + Planning have analyzed the department’s existing conditions, surveyed residents and park users, and reviewed trends to map a plan for the City’s recreational needs.
“The recommendations within Plan2Play prioritize how, over the next 20 years, we maintain and improve existing parks and facilities, invest and plan for future parks and facilities, expand programs, and allocate funding and other resources to meet current and future community needs,” said Parks and Recreation Director Nasha McCray. “Most importantly, the recommendations reflect the values and expectations of more than 7,000 Greensboro residents and park users who provided input about our park and recreation system and translate those into action items that ensure we are effectively and efficiently investing our resources.”
Plan2Play’s goals include:

n Ensuring resources are in place so that all Greensboro parks, facilities and programs are high quality and well-maintained.

n Clearly communicating the department’s mission and offerings to the community.

n Celebrating and enhancing the natural environment to provide clean water, protect wildlife populations, and improve biodiversity.

n Transforming some existing assets into community gathering spaces that provide programming which is inclusive and contemporary.

n Providing community programs that are adaptable to resident needs, inclusive, and informed by recreation trends.

n Formalizing and expanding partnerships used to deliver parks and recreation services.

n Creating safe, clear, and accessible pedestrian, bike, and bus routes that tie parks and trails into the broader city fabric.

n Helping the City build a culture of inclusion.
