Music Teacher Named GCS Employee of the Month
Erin Hagood serves multiple roles at Simkins Elementary

Greensboro, N.C. – Erin Hagood knows that music can be an outlet for the elementary school children she teachers. So she invests her time after school, leading a school chorus or training students who qualify for the North Carolina Honors Chorus.

Her commitment to her students at Simkins Elementary is just one of the reasons she was named the December GCS Employee of the Month.

Colleague Gena Pagano, a physical education teacher at the school, nominated Hagood for the award. She praised Hagood’s willingness to serve in multiple roles at the school, from being a member of the school culture and climate committee, to assisting with the Battle of the Books team, to helping start the GO FAR running club at the school.

“Not only does Ms. Hagood excel at teaching music, she is the best teammate,” says Pagano. “She is the ‘go-to’ person for anyone who needs a hand, because we know that she is always willing to offer assistance. She always tries to provide the best opportunities for our students.”

Hagood received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has given nearly $8,000 to outstanding GCS employees since 2005. During the month of December, her photo will hang at the district’s central office, at Simkins Elementary and at the Sam’s Club on Wendover Avenue.
