History Museum Offers Program on Seeking Peace After World War I

GREENSBORO, NC (January 10, 2019) – To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the Paris Peace Talks that followed the World War I Armistice, the Greensboro History Museum is hosting a special panel discussion, Peacebuilding Post-WWI, at 2 pm, Saturday, January 19 at the Greensboro History Museum, 130 Summit Ave.

Historians from area colleges and universities will discuss global and local expectations for peace after the war. Where did the treaty discussions fail? Where did they succeed? How do they continue to influence the ways we think about war and peace today?

Taking up these questions are Ben Coates and Derek Holmgren from the Wake Forest University Department of History, Gwen Gosney Erickson from the Guilford College Quaker Archives, and Chris Davis of the UNCG Department of History. The discussion is being taped for the museum’s new podcast series, and audience questions are encouraged. This program is made possible thanks to a grant from the Crescent Rotary Club of Greensboro.

The Greensboro History Museum has been commemorating World War I with a special exhibition, Lest We Forget: WWI through the Eyes of Nine. The exhibit tells how our city experienced and continues to remember the Great War through the stories of nine Greensboro residents of varying backgrounds and is on display until August 2019.

The Greensboro History Museum, 130 Summit Ave., downtown next to LeBauer Park, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays 2-5 pm. For more information about this and other programs, visit www.GreensboroHistory.org.
