Greensboro Public Library Updates Tornado Response

GREENSBORO, NC (April 17, 2018) – The Greensboro Public Library is working to assist residents impacted by Sunday’s tornado, offering safe places and extra children’s activities while Guilford County schools are closed. “For many residents in the affected areas, the public library is a gathering place that provides a sense of stability especially during this period of upheaval. Of course we have books, movies and music, but we are also providing games and extra activities for children displaced from their normal school routine,” says Director Brigitte Blanton.
The McGirt-Horton Branch, 2501 Phillips Ave., was closed yesterday due to a power outage, but is open today with limited power. Contrary to previous reports, the facility did not sustain damage during the storm.
Vance Chavis Branch, 900 S. Benbow Rd., is offering a free interactive science program for children at 2:30 today, April 17. Casey’s Laugh and Learn is a high energy, interactive science program that engages children with gross science.
