A Flair for the Arts
The GCS Arts Fair showcases all that the district offers
in music, dance, theatre and visual arts

Greensboro, N.C. – No need for air guitar. Just show up at the GCS Arts Fair and try your hand at playing a real one.

The Guilford County Schools Arts Fair, to be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Greensboro Cultural Center (200 N. Davie St., Greensboro), will promote arts education.

Representatives from elementary, middle and high schools will display student work and share what they offer in arts education. The event, which will take place on the first and second floors of the center, will also feature drama, guitar, orchestra and choral performances on both levels.

Attendees can try playing an instrument at an instrument petting zoo on the second floor. Local music store owners will offer a range of string and band instruments for students and their families to try.

Nathan Street, GCS’ Director of Fine Arts, says the idea is to highlight arts education and show families what’s offered at schools. In addition, they can also learn about after-school and summer enrichment programs like the district’s Summer Arts Institute.

“It gives families an idea of not only what our schools offer in terms of world-class arts education programming, but also what our community as a whole offers in world-class arts education,” Street said. “Our arts community is so tightly knit with our school arts community that our successes are contingent upon one another.”
