NC Governors: Republicans vs Democrats


GREENSBORO, NC — With NC Attorney General Roy Cooper making his bid for NC Governor official, there are two Democrats vying for the spot. Ken Spaulding, a lawyer out of Durham, a former State Representative and Speaker of the House is already on record.

2WTK took a look back at previous governors, their political parties and even their occupations The next Governor will be the state’s 75th. Governors were elected by the legislature from 1776 until 1836. Since that time, there have been eight Republican Governors.The longest stretch between Republican Governors was from 1901 to 1973.

Normally, when you think of Governors and their former occupations you think lawyer or businessperson. The majority of NC Governors have been lawyers, but also on the list which dates back to the 1700’s: farmer, explorer, college professor, shipbuilder, physician, and author.

Greensboro Woman, Son Murdered in Same House 26 Years Apart


GREENSBORO, N.C. — Five people are charged with murdering a 72-year-old grandmother in her Greensboro home.

Doris Leach spent the evening of September first at her neighbor’s house clipping coupons and chatting. About 10 minutes after she left Jacqueline Dick’s house, Leach was shot inside her house on Huffine Mill Road. She died 6 days later.

“I know I catch myself sometimes, I want to go across the street and tell her to come on out the door, but she ain’t coming back out no more,” said Jacqueline Dick.

Jacqueline Dick misses the front-porch conversations, the coupon clipping sessions but most of all, she just misses her friend.
