GREENSBORO, N.C. — Deputies with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office will soon be equipped with body cameras, after a decision by the board of commissioners.

Commissioners voted to approve funding for the cameras Thursday.

The department plans to purchase about 300 body cameras for patrol deputies and sergeants, working in the field. In all, the cameras will cost a little more than $600,000.

The money will come from the inmate welfare fund.

The cameras are always on, but not always recording. So, a deputy can start recording with the flip of a switch.
