Two Arrested in ‘Active Shooter’ Call
GREENSBORO, NC (March 9, 2017) – Two men are facing multiple charges in an incident broadcast as an ‘active shooter’ at a Greensboro business that sent scores of police officers from multiple agencies rushing to the scene.
Law enforcement officials from the Greensboro Police Department, Guilford County Sheriffs’ Department, and several other neighboring agencies quickly responded to 814 W. Market St. a few minutes before noon today after an employee of Insect Shield called GM911 to report that a co-worker, later identified as Shaquille Lee McNeill, was shooting at another employee, later identified as Craig Lawrence Brooks.
Witnesses told police that McNeill and Brooks were engaged in verbal dispute when Brooks produced an edged weapon, and acted in a threatening manner towards McNeill. McNeill then produced a hand gun and fired one round inside the business.
All of the employees of the business quickly evacuated the building. No one was injured in the incident, although two people received medical treatment as a precautionary measure based upon symptoms they exhibited on scene.
Police had both men in custody for questioning moments after the shooting ceased.
McNeill, 24, of 2106 White St., is charged with: Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill; Discharging a Firearm within the City Limits; and, Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling.
Brooks, 57, of 2324 Bonaire Ln., is charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, and Resist, Delay, or Obstruct an Officer. He was also served existing warrants for arrest unrelated to this event.
Police Chief Wayne Scott praised the actions of all of the officers who responded so quickly to the call. He credited standardized training, excellent interagency cooperation, and each officer’s selfless service as contributors to the favorable outcome of the incident.
