Parks and Recreation Opens Brown Recreation Center Community Garden May 20

GREENSBORO, NC (May 18, 2017) – Parks and Recreation will unveil the Ivy Gardens, the City’s newest community garden, at 10 am, May 20, at Brown Recreation Center, 302 E. Vandalia Rd.

This project was made possible by a $1,000 donation from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Greensboro chapter, Sigma Kappa Omega. The garden will be a club garden overseen by a board of members and participants. They will be in charge of managing the space, including upkeep, planting, and harvesting. Organizers plan to donate most produce raised in the garden to food pantries located in the community the center serves. The club plans to teach area residents how to grow food in their yards or on porches and work with the children in Brown’s after school program.

For more information about Ivy Garden, contact Brown Recreation Center Supervisor Liz Lennon at 336-373-2920.
