GTA Transloc Rider Mobile App Tops 12,000 Annual Users

GREENSBORO, NC (July 28, 2017) – In the year since it was introduced to bus riders citywide, more than 12,000 citizens and visitors have used GTA’s Transloc Rider to get real-time information about Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) and Higher Education Area Transit (HEAT) buses. Transloc uses GPS transmitters installed on each vehicle to identify where City buses are at any time in the city. Through the free iPhone/Android app or GTA Transloc website, riders can instantly see an estimate of arrival times at any of the almost 1,100 GTA and HEAT bus stops. The mobile app also allows you to set an alert to tell you when your bus is 15, 10 or even 5 minutes away from your stop. An announcements section allows important transit information to be shared with the user and the feedback link ensures suggestions, comments and complaints are heard.

“Introducing live bus tracking to our riders was just another way GTA seeks to make public transportation access user friendly,” says Kevin Elwood, GTA marketing and communications manager. “Although our system has a great on-time record, the tracker removes all uncertainty of when your bus will arrive. Traffic, weather, regardless of possible causes for delays, Transloc puts the power of accurate transit information in your hand.”

Transloc has been accessed with more than 750,000 individual sessions in the last year. The numbers of individual sessions and users are expected to climb as more current/new riders use the bus for regular service and special events such as the upcoming National Folk Festival.
