Greensboro Science Center’s Dobrogosz Appointed Chair of
AZA Accreditation Commission

GREENSBORO, NC (September 8, 2017) – Glenn Dobrogosz, executive director of the Greensboro Science Center, has been appointed the Accreditation Commission Chair of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the premier nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of zoos and aquariums worldwide.
The chair position is a one-year appointment, running from October 1 to September 30, 2018. In this position, Dobrogosz will oversee the peer review process, which leads to national accreditation by AZA. He has been on the AZA Accreditation Commission for five years, serving as vice-chair since 2015.
“To be appointed chair of this accreditation commission is a huge compliment and shows a tremendous amount of confidence in Glenn’s leadership,” said Chris Wilson, assistant city manager. “The Greensboro Science Center is a great asset for Greensboro and we’re lucky to have someone like Glenn at the helm.”
According to the AZA, the role of the Accreditation Commission is to establish, uphold, and raise the standards of the association. The commission is tasked with reviewing applications for accreditation and certification, conducting interviews, identifying concerns, and evaluating all available information in order to make final decisions. In addition, members monitor accredited institutions and certified related facilities in between cycles, and provide mentoring, training and guidance.
