City Hosts Event About Ways Greensboro Can Grow

GREENSBORO, NC (November 14, 2017) – As a society, our living choices are changing rapidly. More people are interested in renting versus buying and looking for their next home based on if it’s walkable to and from work, services and things to do. Cutting-edge housing developments are becoming a reality due to public and private investment partnerships. Public art is playing a more vital role in creating vibrant cities today.

These are a few of the trends that will be addressed in two public appearances by Geoff Anderson, president and CEO of Smart Growth America, on Tuesday, November 28.
Titled “Growing an Amazing City: Greensboro,” the first talk by Anderson takes place at 12 noon at the Public at Morehead Foundry, 433 Spring Garden St. This “Lunch and Learn” session costs $15 per person and advance online registration is required.
The second talk, which is free to attend, begins at 4:30 pm at the Greensboro History Museum, 130 Summit Ave. No advance registration is required.
Smart Growth America advocates ways to build cities, towns, and neighborhoods that are economically prosperous, socially equitable, and environmentally sustainable. The organization’s staff also offers guidance in navigating federal, state and local rules and regulations while maintaining the strategic vision for attractive, competitive, resilient communities.
This event is the second in a new speaker series coordinated by the City’s Planning Department in support of “PlanIt Greensboro.” These free community events are part of a City effort to spark community conversations about how Greensboro should grow and develop in the future. Public input from the speaker series and other related, upcoming events will be used by staff to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan, Connections 2025.

For more information about the November 28 event or the PlanIt Greensboro speaker series, contact Hanna Cockburn, long range and strategic planning manager for the City, at 336-574-3576.
