Motor Vehicle Fatal Collision

GREENSBORO, NC (September 18, 2017) – On Tuesday September 05, 2017, at 11:47am Greensboro Police responded to the intersection of N. Elm Street / Willoughby Boulevard in reference to a motor vehicle collision involving personal injury.

Mr. Luther Paul Souther Jr.(W/M/90 of Greensboro, NC) was operating a 1991 Buick LeSabre southbound on N. Elm Street when his vehicle crossed left of center colliding with a 2014 Honda Civic being operated by Ms. Debra Richert(W/F/60 of Greensboro, NC) traveling northbound on N. Elm Street.

As a result of the collision Mr. Souther, his passenger Mrs. Vertie Prevette Souther(W/F/86 of Greensboro, NC) and Ms. Debra Richert were transported to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Ms. Richert has been treated and released for her injuries. Mr. Luther Souther died at Moses Cone Hospital on September 15th as a result of injuries sustained from the collision. His spouse Mrs. Vertie Souther died September 16th at Moses Cone Hospital as a result of injuries she sustained from the collision.

The family of the deceased were notified of their death by hospital personnel.

The collision is currently being investigated by the Greensboro Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit. It has been seven days since the last death from a motor vehicle collision.
