When Are Flags Lowered At Half Staff?

Lowering a flag to half staff is an action of remembrance and honor. A 2 Wants to Know viewer called in last night and asked, “Why are flags not at half staff for Congressman Coble?”

The common practice for lowering flags to half staff is on the day of the death and the following day. The governor authorized all flags to be lowered for Congressman Coble Wednesday  and Thursday for all state entities. Guilford County and the City of Greensboro did so as well.

At this point, the City of Greensboro is the only entity planning on lowering flags to half staff Tuesday, the day of Congressman Coble’s visitation and funeral.

Triad Educator Receives Highest Honor For Math Education

ASHEBORO, N.C. — A Randolph County educator received the highest honor for her outstanding work in mathematics education.

The North Carolina Council of Mathematics presented Ms. Wendy Rich with the W.W. Rankin Memorial Award for Excellence in Mathematics Education at the 45th annual State Mathematics Conference in Greensboro. The event was held on Nov. 5th and 6th.

Ms. Rich is the Director of Elementary Education for Asheboro City Schools. Her love for math has led to bringing high quality teaching and learning to our state through projects like TAP MATH, PART-NERS, STAMP, and TEAM.

Ms. Rich has been recognized twice as Teacher of the Year in Randolph County.

Basically this is how the research went down. The team created 43 Uber accounts. And pinged Uber’s servers every five seconds in Manhattan and San Francisco. They studied Uber cars’ comings and goings and combined the research with Uber’s publicly available tools and information.

They found, that in most cases, surge pricing lasts less than 10 minutes! Sometimes less than five.

So if you want to get around Uber’s surge prices, it’s as simple as waiting a few minutes until they update prices.
