Car slams into utility pole; knocks out power for hundreds in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, North Carolina —

Hundreds are without power after a car hit a utility pole overnight.

Officials say a transformer was knocked off when the car came in contact with the pole.

Around 7 a.m., Merritt Drive re-opened for travelers. It was closed for about six hours, from Gentry Street to Fairfax Road, while crews work to repair and replace the utility pole.

More than 400 people were without power at the height of the outage.
